ACDSee Pro allows be to paste the files in any other windows application.ĭespite reading the manual I could not figure out the hotkey command to only display files of a certain rating - the manual is written for MAC users so I've tried plenty of different combinations of ALT and CTRL but it did not work. The copy command is very quirky: rather than storing your files in a buffer ready to be released when you hit PASTE (there is no paste command!) - it opens a dialog box asking where you want to put your files. Why assign CTRL - Y to Copy? On all Windows applications copy is CTRL - C! I always get a few tool bars here and there in photo mechanic. This might not seem like much but makes a world of difference to me. With ACDSee Pro I never have to wait for a photo to be displayed - not so with Photo Mechanic where I sometimes have to wait 1 or 2 seconds until the photo is displayed.

I did not find a way to browse thru images in full screen - with NOTHING else than the image. Speed: much much slower than ACDSee in displaying images. This is simply not acceptable when you're going thru 2000 photos quickly that you need to double check each time that your choice was indeed selected. I would hit ALT-1 to assign 1 star and nothing happened. BUT maybe 1 times out of 4 photo mechanic simply did not react to my key pressing - I would hit number 1 to assign color red to the photo and nothing happened. Reactivity: I enjoy Photo Mechanic's hotkeys to assign ratings and color codes to images - and especially the fact that this information is stored in the IPTC and not in a custom database. Speed: much much slower than ACDSee in displaying images. I immediately spotted 2 problems compared with ACDSee Pro 2:

If you’re not even sure how to use Photo Mechanic the best and simplify everything, go check out their free tutorials. Not only did I save time (which was about 30-60 minutes of saved time per culled job), but my overall workflow and systems improved in result from all of that as well.

(Okay, that was my only deep philosophical comment in this article, I swear – haha). We only have one life, we are getting older every day, and we have no idea how long we have on this earth. After all, time is literally the most important and most valuable thing we have. Heck, everybody likes a good price, am I right? But not to worry, I just bought it anyway.

I started out with their free trial, I searched out for all the Photo Mechanic coupon codes and discount codes, but to no avail. And naturally, I found the Photo Mechanic software. It wasn’t until I started to truly value my time more that I was searching out all the different options. And I mean absolutely and totally inefficient. Personally, I used to cull my photos using only Lightroom, and boy was that a huge waste of time. Because it really is that valuable and amazing. I’m just writing this to just help you get off the fence and to go buy it. And it’s definitely the tool I recommend you get to cull your photos. But for those of you who want to make more money while working less, Photo Mechanic by CameraBits has your back. But not all photographers want to spend a dime to improve their work-life balance. All photographers want to save more time.
